PUERTO LOBOS, SONORA

A small fishing village on the Baja coast of Sonora, Puerto Lobos is home to nearly 100 families. Temporary shelters for the seasonal fishermen are contrived of old bus benches and corrugated tin. One-room family homes have dirt floors and glassless windows. Resourceful residents convert old pick-up camper shells into living space.

A stark contrast with the gringo homes built on neighboring beachfront property, the "Mexican side" of Puerto Lobos is in continuous need of support for daily needs, including food, blankets and clothes. Slow seasons and over-fished waters force the family providers to migrate elsewhere for work, leaving mothers and children hungry back home.
